about

Mink’s Miracle Medicine is a twang-inspired Americana group out of West Virginia, featuring the songwriting duo of Melissa E. Wright and Danny Zezeski. Driven by a deep-seated passion for creating music, and fueled by the knowledge that the song is king, neither can imagine a life without writing music. The songs themselves become necessary to write. Like a symbiotic process of sharing those thoughts and ideas that cannot be expressed verbally, chasing them around for a while out on the road, letting them fly in different cities, different states of mind, and the catharsis of those moments when it all makes landfall.

They played their first show to a packed house in a comic book shop in Philadelphia. It was the first time either of them had played to an audience that was fully engaged with the music and not just a drinking crowd in some bar – a realization that provided the impetus to take it further. Since then, they have gone on to play all over the United States, further indulging an already deep-seated fascination with steam engine trains and cross-country road trips. Citing influence from artists like Patsy Cline, Hank Sr., Neil Young and The Beatles, their sound is raw, earthy and smells like a long and winding road that weaves around an undeniable longing, calling to mind early Tom Petty and shades of Patti Smith.

Both seasoned players in their own right, Melissa graduated from Berklee College of Music with a degree in music business, and has shared stages with internationally known artists like Alison Krauss, Ralph Stanley and Larry Sparks. A Pennsylvania native, Danny’s background is in punk and indie rock. Though he holds down the drums in Mink’s Miracle Medicine, he can also fingerpick like Leo Kottke, a skill he picked up while wheelchair bound after a bad train-hopping accident. They live in a trailer on the Shenandoah River in Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia, and are getting ready to release their first EP in November 2015. Titled ‘Countrypolitan’, it was recorded in an open warehouse space in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia, and was co-produced with Matt Schimelfenig of the band Three Man Cannon.

When they are not on the road, riding the rails or poking the muse, you might find them hanging out on the farm, gardening, riding motorcycles or hanging out with their dog, Grandma. Connect with Mink’s Miracle Medicine through any of their social channels to stay up to date on live shows, new music and stories from the road.

Track Name: Why Does Everyone?
comin up with a new name
goin off to the races
the year's almost over now
i wish i knew that before.

dressed in yellow and turquoise
wearin gingham and purple
i think that they'll be the new good ol' boys
animals runnin in circles.

why does everyone want to get so high?
why does everyone want to get so high?

sunday best on a saturday
get out of the road
you won't remember tomorrow
i wish i knew that before

dressed in lace and white flowers
all up in her hair
poetry on the front porch steps
is anybody there?
does anybody care?
no.

why does everyone want to get so high?
why does everyone want to get so high?
Track Name: Never Planning To
you took my bike for a quick ride
as i was writing inside
wind, blowin through your hair
so zen.

you were lookin cute in your tighties
as i'm criticizing the lighting
roads weaving in and out
like the curving of my pen

and then
you were heading south and
never planning to see me again

so the first shot was the last one
you take it all and leave none for anyone
an afterthought? well,
maybe not.

photographs of the big place
yeah let me know when you land from your headspace
mouth breathing loud,
can't get it out!
but it sure takes in

so just
choke it down your throat
don't ever let it come up again.

so then...

you were headin south
and never planning to see me again
Track Name: You're Kind To Me
many try to love me
many do not work
now i'm wearing your hat
and you're wearing my shirt
and i'm in a skirt
thank god it's warm.

without fail you charm me
out of funk
now i'm after hours cruisin with a
little punk
and i'm drunk.
thank god you're kind to me.

and now there's nothing left to do
i've been dying for you
and trying to undo
what the other fool
cannot see.

and now there's nothing left to say
if you want me to i'll stay
forever and a day
you're what the other fool
cannot be.

open up the window
take a look at the sun
now i've found a reason for
every good thing i've done

and now there's nothing left to do
i've been dying for you
and trying to undo
what the other fool
cannot see.

and now there's nothing left to say
if you want me to i'll stay
forever and a day
you're what the other fool
cannot be.
Track Name: Heart In My Head
the heart in my head is burrowing deeper
the climbing is still necessary
while all i've got left
is a stumbling step till i've
earned my diploma
in caring

oh see, little bird see me
wallowing on the grade
sweet winged and light
and pleasantly chirping
she's carving the sky
while i cannot find
the old
neon path i have made

the heart in my head is burrowing deeper
the climbing is still necessary
while all i've got left
is a stumbling step till i've
earned my diploma
in caring

watch as i
i've changed my whole life
counting wishes for wood
there's an old saying goes
moss on the south side
but i've seen it grow where it shouldn't
who knows if there would be
a north side of free
if a body had gone where it wouldn't.

the heart in my head is burrowing deeper
the climbing is still necessary
while all i've got left
is a stumbling step till i've
earned my diploma
in caring
Track Name: Break My Body's Speed
sittin on the edge of the river, i,
into that river, i fall
rushing, pulling, that bank it was so tall.
lookin up from the mud i
tangle at a reed
all in all it was not enough
to break my body's speed

oh break my body's speed,
later i want it later.

sittin on the edge of the bedstand
into that pillowcase
i fall
rushing, pulling, oh your heartbeat
says it all.
and now you're
lookin out for a cigarette
and as you're finding what you need
is this going to be
proof enough
to finally believe?

oh break my body's speed,
later i want it later.
